Volunteer and guest playing chess

Playing chess with a guest.

At Hackney Winter Night Shelter we treat the people who stay with us as our guests.

From November to April we’ll work with around 100 guests and our link workers will continue to assist them throughout the year with finding more stable accommodation, addressing health and legal issues, and rebuilding their lives after homelessness.

The Advocate workers take referrals from specified referral agencies. If you are one of our referral partners we will be open to take referrals from mid October until the end of March and the advocate workers can be reached on link@hwns.org.uk.

If you are not one of our referral partners and but would like to refer a homeless person, please get in touch with Street Link. They regularly refer people to us, where appropriate, or will help them to access other services. You can phone them on 0300 500 0914 or refer someone via the Street Link website.

For links to other support services, please visit our contact page.

About our guests

Our guests are a mix of male and female adults between the ages of 18 and 60. Our guests are ethnically diverse and we are careful to ensure that everyone feels welcome.
