Night Shelter Millennial Volunteers Feature in City Limits
Our volunteers were interviewed for an article about millennial volunteers in City Limits, the on-line publication of Crowd DNA.
A two-page spread in City Limits features three of Hackney Winter Night Shelter's volunteer team – Courtnee, who organises our fundraising events and helps out at the winter shelter; Luke who helps to set up one of the shelter venues, and Emma, chair of the core group of coordinators.
The piece gives an interesting insight into why the younger generation are deciding to make a commitment to volunteering and how their values, attitudes and diverse skills can contribute to making a difference to charities such as ours.
Hackney Winter Night Shelter has more than 600 volunteers, mainly from the local community, who help with the enormous range of tasks and activities that are needed to set up and run 14 shelter venues over the winter and provide a warm welcome to our guests. Others give their time and expertise in many different ways, such as helping out with events, photography or acting as charity ambassadors. The trustees are also volunteers.
As well as this, we have a whole host of corporate supporters and local businesses who give their time, donate gifts in kind or arrange their own fundraisers.
Without them, the shelters would not exist.
