Reflections from our new Director
Our new Director reflects on his first 10 weeks with the Charity
I’m Henry Brown the new Interim Director of Hackney Doorways. I have taken over from Christina Ball who left the Charity in December 2020.
For the past 10 years, as Chief Executive Officer of the homeless charity Jimmy’s Cambridge, I was privileged to experience the valued contribution of their volunteers but since my arrival in December, I have been overwhelmed beyond belief by the unique and generous support of the many volunteers who support the work of Hackney Winter Night Shelter and our Women’s Shelter.
In the difficult predicament of the Christmas season where unexpectedly we had to find an alternative to the Crisis at Christmas arrangement, and, as we’ve all had to adapt to the priority of creating safe places for all, everyone involved has been amazing and for this I say thank you!
I am proud to be associated with the legacy of committed, loyal volunteer involvement that for the past 20 odd years has been the backbone of the Charity.
I look forward to shaping the continued work of this great Charity, especially as we change from being a winter only night shelter to operating all year round.
With the continued support of the community and our volunteers, we will be able to do even more to help people experiencing homelessness in Hackney.
