As we work with vulnerable adults at the shelter we recognise the importance dedicated training provides to give you the confidence and skills to be your best as a volunteer.   

If you are new to volunteering, haven't volunteered for a while or not yet attended a training course please contact the office at [email protected] to sign up for one of our upcoming training sessions

Volunteer handbook

All those who attend volunteer training are provided a copy of our volunteer handbook, outlining best practice and guidelines for volunteering at a shelter.  If you are an existing volunteer, please contact the office at [email protected] to receive an electronic copy.

DBS Checks

The shelter works with vulnerable adults and a DBS check provides the charity with a check of your criminal record to demonstrate that you are a suitable person to work with vulnerable adults.

We currently only request that all our co-ordinators, staff and trustees are DBS checked. However, we would also encourage shelter volunteers to secure their DBS if possible.

The process is simple and straightforward.  Simply click on the link below and follow the instructions.

The current cost is £23 and we fully reimburse this for all co-ordinators and staff as this is critical to the work they undertake.  Unfortunately, for budgetary reasons we aren't currently able to extend this to our volunteers in general.
