Volunteers offer a wide range of support – many volunteer once a week, others just once a month, working in shifts to offer a service to our guests throughout the night and morning. The first shift prepares the venue, the second cooks and serves dinner and offers our guests conversation in a friendly environment. Some then stay overnight as part of our overnight shift, and then a final shift arrives first thing to serve breakfast or help clear up.
We are desperately in need for volunteers who can do an overnight or morning shift.
Overnighting is a really simple shift, lasting from 10pm to 6:30am the next day, that is vital in allowing us to accommodate our homeless guests. A few volunteers do this shift and take turns getting a good 4 hours sleep, so there is always one person awake. This can be a great option for anyone studying, wanting to catch up on a series, or get through their novel!
Morning shifts are from 7am until 8:15am, and are an interactive and busy shift helping to pack down for day and serving breakfast to the guests. Many volunteers find it easy to fit this in before work, and enjoy helping guests get to a positive start to their day.
Volunteers are vital to the work we do and we recognise and value the huge contribution they make. In return, we can offer you a rewarding experience by providing opportunities to contribute to combating homelessness. Volunteers can also gain experience within the homelessness sector in a positive, friendly and supportive environment.
We offer all our volunteers a training session with an induction pack and have in place a range of policies to ensure the safety and wellbeing of both guests and volunteers.
Demand for volunteers fluctuates throughout the season. If you are interested in volunteering at a shelter - thank you! Please get in touch and we can let you know what services we are recruiting for currently.
Please note all volunteers in the night shelter must be over 18.
