The night shelters are open from November through to March each year, and our Advocate Workers play a vital role in supporting our night shelter “guests” to find more stable accommodation and helping them to access the support they need to overcome their homeless situation. We are looking to recruit two Advocate posts to start early October.
Lead Advocate £29,000 37 hours per week
The Lead Advocate will be responsible for all guest casework, developing and maintaining relationships with a wide range of agencies (for inward and outward referrals).
Ideally you will have experience of working with homeless or vulnerable people, with strong interpersonal skills, highly motivated and with a can-do attitude. You will be very well organised and able to manage a personal caseload of up to 15 guests, and to supervise an Advocate Worker’s caseload.
Hackney Winter Night Shelter is proud of its reputation for achieving successful move-ons for a large proportion of our guests, and the Lead Advocate will be key to continuing and building upon this success, and also help to develop a tenancy sustainment programme for guests who have moved on and need support to help them maintain their tenancies over the longer term.
Advocate Worker £26,000 37 hours per week (7 month fixed-term contract) October to April
The Advocate Worker's role is to deliver the core work of supporting guests to find more settled accommodation, as well as supporting them to address any barriers to moving on, such as debt, physical and mental health or problems with welfare benefits.
Our ideal candidate will be experienced in working with homeless people, and have excellent relationship skills in order to build and maintain relationships with a wide network of partner agencies to whom we signpost and refer people.
Both of these roles require some evening and weekend work, and as such a high degree of commitment and flexibility. In return, we offer a highly rewarding and interesting working environment within a small, friendly and passionate organisation.
