Hackney Winter Night Shelter provides a hot meal and a warm bed for homeless guests who would otherwise be out on the streets during the coldest winter months.
Our vision is for a route out of homeless for everyone in need in Hackney, so we offer this alongside professional and holistic support to help our guests rebuild their lives. We can only do this with your support. Please donate now, become a volunteer and read our latest news.
The shelter runs from November to the end of March.
What’s the shelter all about?
This timelapse video, filmed in 2014/15 by Paul Driver, gives a sense of what it’s like at the shelter.

Thank you to all our wonderful Hackney Half runners and supporters!
On 30th April 2017, a team of 50 people ran the Hackney Half Marathon to raise funds for the Hackney Winter Night Shelter. The 50 runners were among thousands who took the challenge to raise money for charity. People of all ages and abilities completed a circuit of the borough that began and ended with a huge ‘fitness festival’ on the marshes.
Chair of the HWNS Trustees Andrew Hudson, said “We will use the money raised to strengthen what we do for homeless people in Hackney.”
If you would like to help a street homeless person, please get in touch with Street Link. They will help them to access other services. You can phone them on 0300 500 0914 or refer someone via the Street Link website.
